2019 sees the EIGHTH celebration of Independent Businesses in Kent and once again, I am let loose on stage to host the night.

This was the first award ceremony we set up back in 2012. The reason behind it was that so many big businesses were ‘looking out for each other’ and seemed, (to me anyway) to be ignoring some of the smaller ones. Looking back over the years, some of these ‘smaller businesses’ are now much bigger, they are employing staff and adding real value to the local economy. This is GREAT, but what interests me the MOST, are the businesses that are also GIVING BACK to the local business. Those business owners who are taking time out of their schedules to help nurture people who may benefit from both their knowledge and experience.

It’s very easy to get caught up in ‘keeping the cogs turning’ and be oblivious to what is going on around you. How many times have you set off in the car and not really remembered how you got to your destination. You went on autopilot but missed so much of what was actually happening around you. It’s easily done, which is why certain people REALLY stand out and I admire them.

I’ve learned a lot from many of the people I have been involved with over the years. People I met professionally have become good friends and the fact that the community around me is so supportive is inspiring.

So in just one week, for the eight time, I will welcome Independent Business Owners to the stage to celebrate all the great stuff that they have been up to. It’s a celebration, not a boring awards ceremony and I hope the evening is one that I will look back upon and remember with fondness…..
