Business Coaching – A Fad or the Future?

Business Coaching – Fad or the Future? The term coaching is no longer synonymous with the world of sport; it reaches much farther afield in to the world of personal and professional development. More people are engaging with a coach as it is now seen as an important and productive tool for growth and development. Is the idea of engaging a business coach a modern day fad or something that has real, measurable success rates on performance? In a survey run by Kent Women in Business Magazine 75% or people polled stated that since working with a business coach they felt they were more likely to meet professional goals and objectives. Ruth Rollason from Marmalade Design in Ramsgate, (www.marmaladedesign.co.uk) told us,” Having a business coach leads to discipline. It also helps for someone on the outside of my business to throw in ideas and practices to my working life that I may not have seen or thought of.” She added that the biggest benefit to her was that working with a Business Coach helped her to focus her direction and build her business confidence. Amanda McGregor from the Lace Wig Boutique, (www.thelacewigboutique.com) the biggest benefit to working with a Business Coach is “…having someone that believes in my business and its success, in turn pushing me to excel.” Some larger companies expect senior level management to coach down the...

Are you your confident self?

When you look at a ‘confident’ person do you wish you were more like them? One of the easiest ways to become more confident in yourself is to work out why you don’t feel confident. What’s stopping you? What’s holding you back? FEAR? What are you afraid of? Delivering a presentation? Walking in to a networking event on your own? Spiders? Whatever it is that you are afraid of you need to be honest with yourself, only then can you liberate yourself from the trap that may be holding you back! How about if you could turn your fears in to areas of confidence? Get rid of fear and become stronger in confidence, but to do this you first have to face up to what really rattles you and what’ really important to you! Fear of rejection? Fear of your own knowledge? Are you competent enough in the subject you need to be confident in? Fear of standing out? Are you afraid of confronting situations and prefer to hide behind a pull up banner? Fear of exposure? Are you afraid of people knowing things about you? Fear of being judged? It can be broken down and handled in smaller chunks until it really doesn’t appear so frightening....

2013 Kent Women in Business Awards

The first Kent Women in Business Awards took place on 28th March 2013 and it was an honour to host the evening. As co-founder of this event I have been given the opportunity to see some ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things’ and the night is, one that will sit in my happy memory bank for a long time to come. We are just a few days away from the 2014 awards but I felt like a little trip down memory lane to this time last year! It was such an amazing celebration of talent across the county and I am so excited to be hosting the event this...

Kent Women in Business Awards 2014

With just over one week to go until the Kent Women in Business Awards (KWIBA) the excitement is apparent both on Facebook and Twitter. It’s a great achievement for anyone to make the list of finalists and the process of judging has not been an easy one. Fortunately I don’t have anything to do with that part and leave it to selected professionals from across the Kent Business Community. This year we had a panel of five judges and each category was judged by three of them. Having witnessed them hard at work it became apparent that it wasn’t an easy task as there were so many talented women involved in some amazing companies. The judges this year were; Lisa Settle – Telcare Ltd Jackie Groundsell – 1230 The Women’s Company Julie Askew – K-College Paul Andrews – The Business Bunker & Jobs in Kent Ruth Warren – Director for Specsavers What excites me most about these awards is the passion that comes from some of the applicants. You get a real sense for the motivation they have to achieve in the way they do. It is an honour for me to host the event, which this year takes place on 27th March at the Great Danes Hotel in Maidstone. Roughly 200 will join together to mix with colleagues, acquaintances and possibly friends they haven’t yet met. The atmosphere...
