As a linguist, writer and editor, language and communication is a HUGE part of my world. This is why I decided to explore the ‘Menspeak vs Womenspeak’ theory when I was invited to deliver a talk at the East Kent B2B Exhibition hosted by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce.

EK B2B 20147The idea was put to me to host a session for Women in Business and even though I took some flack from my male peers in the county the room was full and people even opted to sit on the floor.

Do We Really Speak a Different Language?

Most people who attended the session already had an idea of their own answer to the questions before it began. By the end of the session, they may have changed their opinion and there were some curious discussions that took place afterwards.

We ran a survey asking people their opinion on the question and whether;

  • If there was a way to be able to communicate effectively with both sexes would you want to know how? 68% of the male respondents said NO, while 88% of the female respondents said YES. Maybe, if there really is a language barrier it should be taught in schools……?

I would like to thank Carole and Penny from Best Business Events and the team for making it such a pleasure to present at what was, a very productive business event.
