The Appy Party

I rarely enter into political discussions, either in a professional or personal environment. Even when I have been on BBC Radio Kent in the weeks leading up to a General Election, my own political leanings have stayed out of the discussion. It has been suggested to me that perhaps this is due to me being afraid to broadcast my allegiance? Or whether I am not knowledgeable enough about the subject and don’t want this to show? In all honesty, it started out being because I was a business magazine editor and I was only interested in subjects that related...

Something is Happening…

It’s Saturday morning, the sun is shining, I’ve been food shopping, walked the dog and done a load of domestic chores around the house, (well is a hap-hazard kind of way) and I CAN’T sit still. This is a little bit difficult as I have strained/sprained my foot for the second time in two weeks which leads me to the conclusion that I should avoid doing domestic chores at all costs. (It’s my left foot not the one that’s perfectly fine in the picture…) I’ve just sorted out meals for the parents for the rest of the day and...

Playing at Aylesford Farmer’s Market

I remember my first cooking demonstration at Aylesford Farmers’ Market back in 2015. I didn’t know which direction I would be heading in career wise at that point, but I knew I liked being part of the cookery theatre, of being on stage and seeing people get involved with what’s going on. That first demo I made a one pot chicken dish using products, including the chicken, that I bought at the Farmers’ Market. This is a tradition I have maintained where possible and there is ALWAYS an element of ‘Ready Steady Cook’ to my recipes. I sometimes see...

Vegan Deli Board

Since I have dedicated a lot of time to developing vegan and vegetarian recipes I have noticed that people shy away as though anything VEGAN couldn’t possibly go in their chops. It’s as though they may catch veganism. Thankfully there are enough sensible people out there who realise that even eating an APPLE means you are eating something considered VEGAN. This vegan deli board was made for a photo shoot for an article in Kent Life Magazine, (March 2019) and was devoured by meat eaters after the shoot. I really enjoy playing around with food and I work on a taste, texture then visual...

So Why Steely Good?

Steely Good is a food production company, albeit it small, creating vegan and vegetarian ‘delights’ which are sold at Farmers’ Markets and Food and Drink Festivals in Kent. It’s been a fun year developing recipes, testing them on ourselves, testing them on friends and testing them on strangers, (who then made orders to buy more!). The best part for me personally is that I lost quite a lot of weight, without dieting and without feeling I was missing out on something. My increased energy levels have probably been really annoying for my family and friends…but if you could see...
